George Vella School of Music

For over 160 years, Malta and Gozo’s band clubs have played an important role in music education, giving generations of young people the opportunity to discover music and develop their talents within their local communities.
The George Vella School of Music, within the Għaqda Mużikali Marija Bambina, Banda Vittorja, Naxxar, continues this tradition while embracing modern approaches to music education.
Our programmes combine practical instrumental training, music theory and ensemble experience, providing students with a structured pathway to develop their musical knowledge, skills and confidence. Students can work towards recognised Trinity College London examinations while gaining valuable experience through performances, School Band, Youth Band and Banda Vittorja.
More than simply learning an instrument, our aim is to provide a complete musical experience — one that encourages discipline, creativity, teamwork and a lifelong appreciation of music.
At the heart of the school remains the spirit of the traditional Maltese band club: accessible music education, community, family and the joy of making music together.

🎵 Music Explorers
A musical adventure for young children! Music Explorers introduces young learners to the world of music through fun, creative and hands-on activities. Designed for different age groups, the programme develops musical awareness, creativity and confidence while introducing children to rhythm, melody, notation and wind band instruments.
🎶 Core Music Programme
Your musical journey, from first notes to the bandstand! The Core Music Programme provides a structured pathway for students to develop their instrumental skills, music theory and ensemble experience. Students progress through five levels, gaining experience through individual tuition, School Band, chamber music, Youth Band and, at the higher levels, and eventually our own symphonic wind band lead by our director Mro. Roderick Bugeja
🎼 Level 6+ Course
Take your musicianship to the next level. The Level 6+ Course is designed for students who have completed the Core Music Programme and wish to continue developing their instrumental skills at an advanced level. Through individual tuition and preparation for Trinity College London examinations at Grade 6 and above, students can further develop their technique, musicianship and performance experience.
🎺 More Than Lessons — The School Band
Your first experience of playing together! All students from Levels 1 to 5 take part in weekly School Band sessions, gaining their first experience of playing in a wind band and developing the skills, techniques and teamwork needed to perform as an ensemble.
The weekly one-hour sessions combine ensemble playing, solfeggio and practical activities, leading to a concert at the end of the scholastic year. The School Band may also participate in other events organised by the school.
